Out Magazine
Working for Out as Design Director was a fast, beautiful ride. Three weeks after I started, the parent company laid us all off, and the Editor-in-Chief started a new company and rehired most of us as freelancers. We worked in a tiny railroad office above a pet store in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn. Staffers would come and go around the clock because everyone had second jobs, but somehow, we managed to put out some glorious issues—a true testament to the talent and commitment of the team. Before I was recruited away to Starbucks, we had great adventures. We got to meet Spock, drink whiskey with Channing Tatum, and direct a shoot at the White House.
