Mariner Magazine

I had the fortune to work with Holland America Line, Story Worldwide, and DDB Seattle to launch Mariner for the cruise line’s most loyal customers. I played a key role in determining the editorial content structure and established the creative direction. We chose typography and commissioned illustrations with an art deco twist to nod to their nautical legacy. My photo editor and I featured big, lush travel shots to entice new cruise adventures. Much of the photography was stock, but we picked up some important work directly from photographers I knew from Alaska, putting money back into the popular cruise destination. The back section of the book was filled with complex cruise listings, so I made them more user-friendly with an object-oriented and color-coded design, which reportedly helped increase sales. This project won many, many Pearl awards.
